Abbie Matthews

Hello.

My name is Abbie Matthews. I am the Literacy and Numeracy Support Teacher K-2 at St Mary's Primary Casino. I have been at St Mary’s for the past 12 years where I have taught Kindergarten through to Stage 3 as well as Reading Recovery. Prior to this, I too have worked in London as well as at St Vincent's Primary School at Clear Island Waters on the Gold Coast. I am looking forward to this experience and all it has to offer, The areas in which I will be particularly interested in learning more about and reflecting upon include:

  • How Literacy/Numeracy sessions are structured and the activities/programs they have   in place within these areas. (Particularly within K-2)
  • In what ways they incorporate elements from our CLF within their teaching practice.
  • How they collect, share and use data to inform their teaching. (Do they have a tracking system/student goals etc, and what does this look like)
  • What systems do they have in place to cater for the diverse range of abilities
  • What type of professional learning occurs and how this is structured ie: PLT/PLC’s etc.
  • How is ICT used effectively within the school as a tool. (Particularly within the early years )
  • Are there any programs/initiatives in place for the smooth transition into the first year of school and beyond.

I am very excited to be given this opportunity to visit St Rita's and to share this experience with fellow teachers, reflecting and sharing ideas about our new learning.
